MS4 Successfully Defends UTMB Dermatology Honors Research Program Thesis
Congratulations to UTMB MS4 Alekhya Gurram, our current DIG President, for the successful defense of her Honors Research Program Thesis, “An Analysis of Vitiligo and Vascular Anomalies in Children’s Literature.” Her honors program faculty were Drs. Richard Wagner (Professor Dermatology), Lindy Ross (Assistant Professor of Dermatology), Ayezel Munoz (Assistant Professor of Dermatology), and Jiaren Sun (Professor & Director, Scholarly Concentration in High Impact Basic Science and Clinical Research (SCiHIR), Departments of Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology). Ms. Gurram’s academic achievement will be recognized at the 2027 all-concentrations certificate and cord celebration hosted by JSSOM.

UTMB Dermatology PGY-3 resident Julien Bourgeois, MD, was recently invited to speak at the 2026 National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp), a national STEAM program bringing together students from across the country and internationally. Dr. Bourgeois presented “How Structure, Function, and the Immune System Shape the Skin,” introducing students to key concepts in dermatology and skin health. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct clinical and translational research training in the field of dermatology.
- Participate in intra- and interdepartmental conferences.
- Interact with multiple attendings with similar research interests and aid in the preparation of abstracts and manuscripts, which may lead to opportunities to present or publish scholarly work.
- Work with the Principal Investigator to formulate research plans, coordinate project activities, and establish appropriate reporting procedures.
- Make modifications to research procedures in collaboration with the Principal Investigator.
- Confer with the Principal Investigator regarding results obtained and receive suggestions for modification to procedures and/or interpretation of final data.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidates should be graduates of an approved medical school, have completed one year of residency training, and hold a permanent Texas Medical License.
