DIGA and APD Joint Webinar About Next Dermatology Residency Application Cycle

 DIGA and the APD (Association of Professors of Dermatology) will host a joint webinar on Tuesday August 10, 2021 at 8PM EST to provide information and updates regarding changes to ERAS and the residency application process for the upcoming 2021 - 2022 cycle. (i.e. preference signaling, secondary application, virtual vs in-person interviews)

American Board of Dermatology (ABD) Recommends Pearson VUE Test Centers for CORE Exams

Due to reliable internet connectivity and other factors, the ABD is recommending Pearson VUE Test Centers for dermatology residents taking the 4 CORE exams now needed to take the ABD Certification Examination following residency completion. ABD is also interested if residents encounter any problem with their test experience, and request that these residents contact the ABD directly at 617-910-6400 (Kara Fuller, ext. 4) who is their first-line advocate.

MS4 Dermatology Honors Research Project Accepted

Congratulations to MS4 Renat Ahatov for the acceptance of his UTMB Dermatology Research Honors Project, “Analysis of Androgenic Alopecia Treatment Preferences in Dermatologists.” The project will serve to analyze the treatment preferences for the elusive androgenic alopecia in males and females, in dermatologists across the United States via a survey study. His ad hoc thesis committee members are Dr. Bret Howrey (Family Medicine, Director of the UTMB Honors Research Program), and dermatology faculty Drs. Lindy Ross (faculty advisor), Michael Wilkerson, Sharon Raimer, and Richard Wagner.

Survey on Medical Student Dermatology Research

The July 2021 issue of SKIN provides interesting information about medical student perceptions about dermatology research. The authors conducted a survey of dermatology interest groups and had 57 students participate. Students participating in more than 8 research experiences had greater confidence in their research abilities. Posters, abstracts, and chart reviews were favored. Vanderbilt Dermatology Program Director Survey about USMLE Step 1 Scores

The June 2021 issue of Cutis (pages 293-294) suggests that dermatology program directors may start placing more emphasis on USMLE Step 2 once Step 1 scores are no longer available.
