Dr. Adam Nguyen Receives Prestigious Thayer Teaching Award

Congratulations to Dr. Adam Nguyen, a recent completing PGY4 UTMB dermatology resident for receiving the Thayer Award for Excellence in Teaching from the John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine. Thayer Award recipients are residents and fellows at UTMB selected for their “…sound scientific knowledge, compassion toward patients, and dedication to learning and teaching.” Following nomination by a medical student, awardees are selected by UTMB Osler Student Scholars. Congratulations to Dr. Nguyen for this well-deserved recognition!

UTMB MS4 Publishes in SKIN

Congratulations to MS4 Antonio Jimenez on the publication of "Aseptic Syphilitic Meningitis in an HIV-Negative Patient with Concomitant Primary and Secondary Syphilis," published in the July 2020 issue of SKIN The Journal of Cutaneous Medicine with coauthors Dr. Paige Hoyer and Dr. Michael Wilkerson! Medical College of Wisconsin is offering 4th year medical students interested in dermatology a 4-week virtual "Advanced Dermatology" course. Four students per block will be accepted, with a prerequisite Dermatology rotation required for application. Interested students may apply through VSAS.

UTMB Named to the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals

The University of Texas Medical Branch has been named to the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals - specifically in the Top 15 nationwide among major teaching hospitals! UTMB is one of only three hospitals in Texas to be included on this year's list.

Issued each year, the IBM Watson Health list was created to help identify top performance benchmarks that may help other health care organizations achieve consistent, balanced, sustainable high performance. Researchers evaluated 3,134 short-term, acute-care, non-federal U.S. hospitals for a variety of measures, including lower inpatient mortality rates and fewer patient complications, shorter lengths of stay and faster emergency care. UTMB PGY4 Publishes in Dermatologic Surgery

Congratulations to Dr. Kristyna Gleghorn and her coauthors for their recent article, “Foreign Body Reaction to Hydrophilic Polymer Following Mohs Micrographic Surgery.” It appeared online ahead of print in Dermatologic Surgery (June 2020) PMID:  32604230  DOI:  10.1097/DSS.0000000000002510  
Her coauthors were Drs. Vlad Codrea (completing Mohs fellow for the 2019-2020 academic year), Assistant Professor of Dermatology Brandon Goodwin, and the Mohs fellowship director, Dr. Richard Wagner.
