Today our DIG members participated in this year’s Fiesta Comunidad, a community-wide event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at the College of the Mainland. Our volunteers distributed sunscreen, donated by UTMB Dermatology, and engaged with attendees about the importance of sun protection and safety.

The Dermatology Interest Group’s CODE BB posted its first bulletin board at Crenshaw Elementary/Middle school. This month’s board teaches kids about sun safety and educates them on how to protect their skin from the sun. Thank you to all of our awesome volunteers who participated and made this possible! Congratulations to UTMB PGY2 dermatology resident, Dr. Renat Ahatov for his recent first-author publication in the peer-reviewed journal Cureus, “Delayed Seroma of a Facial Full-Thickness Skin Graft Donor Site”. The Dermatology Interest Group held a booth at this year’s Access Coastal Care of Texas (ACCT) Seawalk Health Fair on Sunday, October 6th. This community-wide event aims to provide health screenings, resources, and education to underserved residents of Galveston. At our booth, we offered free sunscreen samples (donations provided by UTMB Dermatology) and educated participants on sun protection, how to use sunscreen effectively, and how to identify potential skin cancers. Thank you to our DIG volunteers who participated!
