UTMB Dermatologist speaks on skin cancer prevention at Friendswood Chamber event
Frank Winsett, MD FAAD, Assistant Professor at the Department of Dermatology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, was the speaker at a "Lunch and Learn" meeting at the Friendswood Chamber of Commerce on June 23. 2022, on the topic of skin cancer prevention.
Dr. Winsett urges everyone to be mindful of their skin, especially during the sunny summer months, and watch for warning signs of skin cancer. He suggested protecting the skin with clothing or sunscreen and full-brim hats to guard against cancer.
According to Winsett, applying sunscreen with an SPF of 30 is sufficient protection against UV rays while out in the sun, but that it should be re-applied every 90 minutes or so to be effective.
He also recommended that spouses and partners help each other watch for any emergence of new moles or changes in existing ones, and seeking medical attention if any differences are detected.
