Study on medical students’ interest in dermatology
We are conducting a brief study to better understand medical students’ growing interest in the field of dermatology. We aim to characterize students’ perception of the field and identify the factors that influence a student’s desire to pursue a clinical elective and/or career in dermatology.

NSRF 2022
Every year, medical students, graduate students, and residents in all specialties present their research at the National Student Research Forum. This year, Fareen Momin (UTMB MS2) received the Best Oral Presentation in Dermatology award on her research about Dermatological Findings in Children's Film (faculty sponsor Dr. Richard Wagner).
The Best Dermatology Poster Presentation was awarded to Brenda Carrillo MS3. Her coauthors were Yara Samman (MS2), Dr. Anthony Linfante, and Dr. Janice Wilson. The poster title was “The Rainbow Pattern in Dermoscopy: A Meta-Analysis of Associated Diagnoses and Anatomical Locations.”

UTMB MS4 Awarded Magna Cum Laude Research Honors
UTMB MS4 Renat Ahatov presented his Dermatology Honors Research Thesis, "Analysis of Androgenic Alopecia Treatment Preferences in Dermatologists," on May 13, 2022. He successfully defended his thesis and was awarded Magna Cum Laude Research Graduation Honors by his ad hoc Honors Committee. His faculty mentor was Dr. Lindy Ross. Ad hoc honors thesis committee members included Drs. M. Kristen Peek, Michael Wilkerson, Sharon Raimer, and Richard Wagner. It was the third dermatology research honors project presented virtually this academic year. Congratulations to Mr. Ahatov for this accomplishment!

The symposium is virtual-only and will showcase nationally-recognized dermatology experts in skin of color, as well as other speakers selected for their knowledge and commitment to diversity and cultural competence, especially in the field of medicine. This year’s symposium also includes internationally-acclaimed, award-winning photographer, Angélica Dass, as well as a special panel discussion. In an effort to bridge the knowledge gaps in skin of color dermatology and cultural competence, the Mark Allen Everett, MD, Skin of Color Symposium is offered to a broad audience including: healthcare providers, healthcare students and trainees, staff and administrators, as well as aestheticians and professional hairstylists.
