Should I take a year off to do dermatology research before applying for residency?

Maybe. A year of dermatology research between the MS3 and MS4 year is becoming a trend as competition increases for residency positions. Funded positions are competitive and can demonstrate a commitment to a dermatology career, in addition for an educational opportunity to gain substantive dermatology research experience.
